Local swimmers end season on a high


Blue Ocean Aquatics (BOA) swimmers recorded great results at the recent South African Level Two Regional Championships in Sasolburg.

The final medal count was four gold and four silver medals achieved by three swimmers, with two other club swimmers making finals in their respective events.

Nelzaan Strydom made six finals, winning gold in the 200m freestyle and silver in the 100m freestyle events. Tharien Venter, who competed in her first level two regional championship, made the final in the 200m breaststroke and was part of the relay team that won silver.

George Annandale made finals in four events and achieved three personal best times. Ricardo Carthew was on top form and made seven finals, winning two gold medals and two silver medals, of which one was for the relay event. He swam five personal best times at this meet.

Alexandros Robbettze made three finals in the breaststroke events, winning gold in the 50m and second in the 100m. He was also part of the relay team that placed second and he improved time on five of his events.

“Congratulations to each and every swimmer that has participated in the regionals and national events this past month. You have swum like stars and have achieved much,” said BOA coach Mandy Koegelenberg.

“What a great way to finish off the season and go into the new season with new goals and confidence that you can swim faster,” she added.
