South Coast hosts influential tourism trade and media representatives

In early July, Ugu South Coast Tourism (Ugu SCT) hosted representatives from 14 tourism trade companies and the media in order for them to familiarise themselves with the tourism product within the destination.

The tour attendees included tour operators, airlines from Namibia and Botswana, travel agencies and radio stations such as Radio Kosmos and SABC Radio News.

Besides sampling various quality hospitality properties like San Lameer, Blue Marlin Hotel in Scottburgh the group also experienced eco activity outings to Lake Eland in the increasingly popular Oribi Gorge, a visit to the Red Desert at Port Edward and a sunset cruise along the Umtamvuna River.

There were also agri tours hosted by Beaver Creek Coffee Plantation and a Banana Farm tour from the Outlook Trading Post in Southbroom.

Commenting on the initiative Ugu SCT CEO Justin Mackrory commented, “In hosting these influencers we anticipate that they will not only publicise our destination but also package and market experiences in the Ugu District. The principle being if somebody has first-hand experience of what our tourism assets are, they are more likely to recommend the destination and its products.”

Ugu SCT has a number of such tours planned for the industry in the new financial year ahead.
