South Coast set for SupaDrift showdown

June is a relatively cold month leaning into winter but the end of June spikes somewhat into a hot cauldron of drift competition and it all melts down at Dezzi South Coast Raceway in Oslo Beach on Friday and Saturday.

Dogged the ultimate ‘motortainment’, drifting has become a sensory overload spectacular for the entire family. The third instalment of the SupaDrift Series is coming back to the South Coast and the sideways soap opera begins again! Roaring engines, smoking tyres and the smell of ethanol will certainly permeate the Ugu airwaves as South Africa’s top drifters arrive to do battle and scar the tar!

The 2018 SupaDrift campaign is its hottest contested competition to date; two-time national drift champion, Jason Webb, will be arriving from Cape Town in his 2016 supercharged Ford ‘Monstang’, a certain crowd favourite, boasting an impressive 500kW of roar rear wheel drive power.

‘Whilst the first two event wins’ were completely thrilling for me and my team, we are already planning our game plan for event number three! We are coming with more smoke, more angle and more speed to do battle with other SupaDrift competitors!’ says Webb.

South Coast drifters Shane Gutzeit and the Puren trio of Brendan, Gavin and Trevor have gotten off to a strong start and will be eager to make the most of their home event.

Angle, Speed, Line and Style are the criteria for which SupaDrift Judges adjudicate individual drift runs and score accordingly; drifters are then seeded and afterwards get the opportunity to battle against rival drifters in a tandem event. Competitors have to match the lead car and blueprint his/her run in close proximity (as in door to door) to the max to gain top points and win the battle. A ladder system and knock out competition funnels top competitors to the final.

XS Promotions, promoters of the Series, promise a fun-filled familytainment event. ‘I, for one, being lucky enough to drift and promote at the same time, am super excited to get to Port Shepstone…we know that the crowds will see something completely new and be instant fans of the drivers, cars and the event itself. Two lucky fans will also be getting the opportunity to sit as passengers in the cars on the 29th June and be introduced first hand to the sideways craze!’ states Jim McFarlane, sales director.

Tickets are available at or at the gate – R100 for adults and R50 for children. 29th June (practice) – 30th June (raceday) 2018
