A total of 148 swimmers participated in this year’s Blue Ocean Aquatics (BOA) Junior Splash Gala that took place at Creston College recently.
Connor Franken, 11, was one of the standout swimmers and set four new records – in the 100m individual medley,50m butterfly, 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle.
Eight-year-old Leah Lepront broke the 25m breaststroke and 25m butterfly records, while Demar van Tonder set a new 25m butterfly record in her age-group.
The school with the most entries was Kokstad Junior School, and the club with the most entries was Apex H2O, also from Kokstad.
“The gala was a huge success, with swimmers getting the opportunity to race and have fun,” said BOA coach Mandy Koegelenberg.
“In Splash style, there was a little rain, but the weather cleared to give us a glorious summer’s day with lots of sun and warm temperatures.
“Well done to each and every swimmer who participated; you swam fast and the records prove this. We look forward to seeing all the swimmers competing in the Spring Splash in October.
“Thank you to all the BOA senior swimmers for helping with timekeeping and to all the BOA committee members and parents for your help on the day.
“Thank you to our sponsors; the Property Circle, the Heydricks family, the Ballack family, the Hilder Family, the Adamson family, Frey’s Meat, Panarotti’s, Spur, John Dory’s and Bates for their continued support and helping us make the event a successful one.”
