Ugu South Coast Tourism CEO Phelisa Mangcu has given an assurance that the water supply in the Port Edward area, which has had serious problems over the past weeks, is in the process of being restored to normal after repairs by Ugu Ops.
Everything will be normal by the end of the week; she appealed to potential holidaymakers not to cancel bookings already made, and asked those who are considering a visit, to please do so.
She told eHowzit, ‘As far as we are concerned, it is all systems go. Please come and enjoy yourselves. After all, the South Coast is our own piece of heaven.’
Ward Two Councillor Dave Watson told eHowzit Ugu Ops had completed the Umtamvuna lift pump repairs and production had recovered. The process of recommissioning the system from Port Edward to Southbroom and up to Izingolweni had begun.
He said it could take up to three days for this process to be completed as the workers reservoir balance, open valves and purge airlocks. The #vulavala schedule had now been suspended.
If residents didn’t yet have water, they should please sms 44751 with their addresses and a brief statement about no water. The issue was known, so they might not receive a reference number for these sms’s.
He asked for this action to be repeated every six hours until service was restored. The intention was to assist plumbers with resolving street level issues, and residents’ cooperation would be highly appreciated.
Cllr. Watson asked consumers to use water sparingly until the all clear was sounded so that all residents could get water as soon as possible.
