With Valentine’s Day almost here, Port Shepstone-born Donna Small has expressed her love for hockey.
The former Creston College head girl is one of the success stories of the SPAR KZN School Girls’ Hockey Challenge, having gone on to shine for Varsity College and star for South Africa at the 2016 Women’s Hockey Junior World Cup in Chile.
With love being in the air, the SPAR KZN School Girls’ Hockey Challenge team reached out to Small as part of a Valentine’s inspired series to find out what she loves about hockey.
Small said: “I love hockey because I love winning. Unfortunately, my teams don’t always win – but the inside jokes, loud music we play on tour, the different places we get to see, late night practices and early morning runs, my name on a team list, the eight seconds it takes to celebrate a goal, the gold medals, champagne showers and the great people hockey introduces me to – keeps me coming back for more. I love hockey because it’s more than ‘just a game.’”
Creston College will host the Sisonke and Ugu Southern KZN Regional tournament on Saturday, 13 April.
