WATER SERVICES UPDATE: 14 MAY 2019
CUSTOMERS SUPPLIED BY UMTHAMVUNA SUPPLY SYSTEMS URGED TO USE WATER VERY SPARINGLY
Customers supplied by the Umthamvuna supply system are advised that Umthamvuna raw water pump station production has been reduced to +55% due to failure on one of the two duty low lift pumps.
The mechanical team is on site removing the pump for repairs. Please note that the repair job will take at least four weeks to be completed. And in the interim, the available production of 11 MLD will be alternatively supplied to coastal and inland system with priority to areas that are not easily serviced by water trucks.
Areas fed by this system area: Southbroom to Port Edward and the inland areas of KwaNzimakwe, Ezinqoleni, KwaXolo, Gcilima, Thelawayeka, Mvuntshini, Shobamdlanzi, Mbecuka, Florida, Nodalane, Shobeni and Mlozane areas.
Team will prioritize pumping to Gcilima today and Izingolweni tomorrow. Coastal area supply will be opened at night to build up storage.
Additional Water Tanker services will be critical during the down time.
We urge all consumers on this system to reduce water consumption by 50% until further notice.
