SCBA chairman Manus Erasmus congratulates overall and Under-18 division winner Jaco Pienaar.
The third annual Port Edward Bass Classic hosted by the South Coast Bass Association (SCBA) was dominated by junior anglers on Saturday.
Fishing took place on 15 private farm dams – with weigh masters at every dam – and while weather conditions were poor, anglers persisted and landed a lot of large-mouth bass.
The SCBA strictly practices catch-and-release and not a single fish was killed in this event.
Junior angler Jaco Pienaar caught the biggest bass, weighing in at 1.98kg, which saw him win a kick boat from Custom Kick Boats and Ferel Inflatables.
Pienaar also won a Pisces Predator kick boat for catching the biggest bass in the Under-18 division.
Reuben Venter and Eloise Fisher won the men’s and ladies divisions with catches of 1.58kg and 1.23kg respectively, while Bennie Strydom won the Under-12 division with a 1.27kg catch.
Professional anglers Carl Gutzeit and Johan van Rooyen from Rapala and Big Bite Lures and Outdoor 365 donated lures and plastics to the juniors, which were received with great excitement.
SCBA chairman Manus Erasmus said: “It was a great competition. We had double the amount of entries than in previous years and anglers promised to return next year.
“Because of the growth in popularity, we will host the event at a new venue next year. We sincerely thank all our sponsors and the farmers without whom the Port Edward Bass Classic would not take place.”
