Rich history of Paddock fishing competition continues – photo gallery

The 2019 edition of the Paddock fishing competition continued the rich and successful history of this popular family event.

Anglers came from far and wide to prove themselves in the individual categories as well as the team event, all looking to land the sought-after winning catch in over 30 fully-stocked dams at the weekend.

The weather conditions were stunning with warm sunny weather and the food was delicious as always. Around 250 campers set up tents around the club with over 400 people casting their lines.

The anglers yielded a record-breaking total of 691.564kg of fish, the most coming from Eric Dunstone’s dam. The total weight of catches from Dunstone’s dam came to a whopping 238.06kg.

The biggest bass was caught by Dewald Beetge; it weighed in at 4.22kg and came from Billy Vorster’s dam. Elize Scheepers caught the heaviest tilapia, which weighed 2.20kg.

Special mention must be made of Vossie Vosloo, who hasn’t missed a competition for 36 years. This year, he won first prize in the men’s tilapia division (2.12kg).

“Team Daiwa” (Vossie Vosloo, Dean Vosloo and Jarryd Berning) won the men’s team event and caught a total of 49.620kg of fish. “Wrinkles and Pimples” managed to place first in the ladies category and bagged a total of 41.060kg of fish.

The winning mixed team, “Bob Hope” (Ryan Wichman, Madie Allison, Louis Allison and Lloyd Laxton), caught 30.30kg of fish, while the winning high school team, “Master Baiters” (Fritz Dewit and Jordon Pelser), caught a total of 8.92kg of fish.

The junior team winners, Jared Stedman, Braygen Massey, Kyle Grobbler and Josh Stedman, aptly called “Eat my Worms”, caught 6.120kg of fish.

Prizes to the value of R200 000 were handed out to the winning anglers as well as lots of lucky draw winners. These prizes were once again made possible by companies who work closely with the local farmers and as a community. The Paddock Farmers Club is grateful for the continued support of this event by these business owners.

The club thanks the anglers for their support and the farmers for preparing dams and working tirelessly to make the event a success.
