South Coast set to crown King of the Sea

The 10th annual Safire King of the Sea fishing challenge, the South Coast’s most fun and popular fishing competition, is set to be the highlight of this weekend’s sporting action.

Fisherfolk on kayaks, jet skis and ski boats will once again go up against each other on Saturday and Sunday in a gamefish-only competition in which only Couta, Yellowfin Tuna, Snoek, Dorado and Wahoo count.

Title sponsor Safire Insurance, a short-term insurer that has supported the event for several years now in line with its slogan ‘short-term insurers, long term partners’, is joined by Glasfit, Halfway Toyota Shelly Beach, Rototank, Catch Cook and Go Fish magazine to ensure that prizes for the event are as enticing as any fish-tempting lure.

There are a shoal of awesome prizes up for grabs including heaps of cash for the top winners along with holidays and getaways, fishfinders, fridge/freezers (to keep the fish and the refreshments chilled), fishing tackle and more.

This weekend event, held at Pumula Beach Hotel, isn’t just for those trying to land the big one. All are welcome to join in for family fun and entertainment, with great excitement as each catch is brought ashore.

There is something for the whole family, including live music, wine tasting, the renowned Pumula seafood braai, and rugby on the big screen.

There is also a tantalising crayfish competition and – weather permitting – a kiddies’ fishing competition on Saturday.

Entries are still open and entry forms can be obtained by emailing events@gofishmagazine.co.za or visiting www.gofishmagazine.co.za.
