Margate Country Club came alive when it hosted the Halfway Toyota Shelly Beach Margate Challenge over the weekend.
The club did a splendid job with the course following the floods and players and their partners embraced the Country Roads theme.
Reduced from three days to two this year, the popular annual betterball stableford competition was an exciting, camaraderie-filled and highly enjoyable affair.
Excitement peaked on Saturday when players had an opportunity to win a brand new Aygo sponsored by Halfway Toyota Shelly Beach with a hole-in-one on the 16th hole.
The tension at the tee was palpable and there were some close call, however, the car once again proved elusive.
Barry van der Veen and Greg Scholl comfortably claimed the bragging rights on 93 points. Jaco van der Wal and Johan Neethling were five points adrift in second place while Angus MacLachlan and Una McLachlan counted out Dougie Smittz and Frikkie van Zyl for third place on 86 points.
Players won fantastic prizes and the event ended on a high note with a dinner and live entertainment.
