Port Shepstone Country Club came alive when it hosted the annual Restoration Trophy at the weekend.
This event commemorates the devastation of the floods that the South Coast experienced in 1959, and the severe impact it had on the club.
Golf and bowls were played and live entertainment added to the festival atmosphere that reigned throughout the event.
Halfway Toyota was the main sponsor of this year’s event with the secondary sponsor being the Garrun Group.
The golf competition came down to the wire with Ryan Ringo, Paul Tedder, Daryl D’Arcy and Grant Petersen (pictured) counting out Altaf Bux, Ganes Munsami, Peppe Govender and Sandi Burger on 184 points to seal the silverware.
One point adrift in third place were Terry Kotze, Roy Matkovich, Gordon Dickson and Gary Vogt.
Lucky draw winners for a one night stay for two people including breakfast compliments of Selborne Golf Estate, Hotel and Spa were Grant Petersen, Howard Crouch, Charles Hulley and Di Nadauld.
An auction was also held and saw D’Arcy secure a one night stay for two including breakfast at Selborne Golf Estate, Hotel and Spa including a fourball and carts and Debi Stewart secure a Callaway driver.
Twelve teams of trips participated in Sunday’s bowls, ensuring the competition was a great success.
The winners were the team of Rick Thomson, Anne Payn and Julia Peacock. The runners-up were Mark Nicholas, Nikita Coetzer and Barbara Henderson, while the winners of the session prize were Keith Thiele, Gill Thiele and Caroline Harris.
“Our club truly celebrated a great restoration event this weekend and not only were we supported by our loyal club members, but we were also supported by more than 40 golf visitors as well,” said Sandy Danckwerts, the club’s advertising, media and marketing co-ordinator.
She added, “Port Shepstone Country Club would like to thank Halfway Toyota and the Garrun Group and also to all the other sponsors who supported this annual event over the weekend and to those who assisted with sponsorship and great prizes. Without your support and help this event would not have been able to take place.
“Also many thanks to those too behind the scenes that did so much to help with putting this event together. Charles and Jenny Hulley, Rob Piers, Jimmy Parsons, Ryan Ringo, Ralph van den Berg, Jesse Verster and the Pro Shop, Howard and Wynona Crouch, Terry Kotze, Gary Vogt, Bevis Fairbrother, Beryl Olden, Cecelia Verster and the Ladies Section, Graeme Milligan for the great food and also to our Club Manager Carrie Pieterse and her staff that assisted.
“Thank you to the Jones family and Halfway Toyota for being a part of our event, and not only for the main sponsorship that you so gratefully gave us, but also for being a part of our club for so long and supporting us through our many fundraisers. With support from businesses like Halfway Toyota our beautiful club would not be where it is today. Thank you.
“Thanks to The Garrun Group who were very generous too in their sponsorship of cash and prizes. A huge thanks to Cliff Garrun and his team for also participating in the event. Thanks to the ‘Tequila Twins’ as well for their great music on Sunday too.”
