The annual Port Shepstone Lions/Illovo Sugar Charity Golf Day, held on Friday, was a great success with superb weather and a full field of players.
Approximately R60 000 was raised for the charity.
Members of the club manned the Lions/Curnow KZN stand at the 17th hole where they treated players to “light” refreshments and plenty of encouragement for the challenging hole that lay ahead of them.
Charles Hulley, Rob Calder, Chris Boyce and Terry Kotze were the winners on 99 points.
Smittie Stieger, Howard Crouch and Ken Morris (plus ghost) were a distant second on 91 while Ronnie Mtshaka, Koko Zithumane, Francois and Ndumi Ncemane finished third on 90 on a count out.
During the official prize-giving ceremony, Club President Dale Mc Garry expressed gratitude on behalf of the club to main sponsor, Illovo Sugar, the many other sponsors who contributed so generously and to all the golfers who supported the event.
He also thanked project convener, Lion Justin Hinchliff for organising the event and sponsorships, all Lions and Lion Ladies who participated and the Port Shepstone Country Club for hosting the event.
The prize-giving was followed by music courtesy of DJ Stoppy and the now famous local band 4-5 Seconds who provided superb musical entertainment for the rest of the night.
